Bo Li, Principal Investigator
Li Lab is dedicated to the development of new optical imaging technologies, and applies them to neuroscience research in model animals such as mice, fish, and macaques etc. For example, three-photon microscopes can achieve hippocampal imaging of living mice (Nature Methods 2017), through-skull imaging (Nature Methods 2018) and whole brain imaging of adult zebrafish (Nature Methods 2020), our recently developed adaptive femtosecond light source can increase the performance by 30 times (Nature Methods 2020).
The research of Li Lab is supported by sufficient funding, including the Bernard J. Couillaud Prize funded by The Optical Society and Coherent Inc., the "Exploring Outstanding Youth" (research leader) funded by the Shanghai Brain Science and Brain Research Center, and the Everest talent introduction plan and talent cultivation plan funded by the Frontier Science Center of Brain Science, etc. We warmly welcome aspiring young people with scientific enthusiasm to join us!Our lab recruits postdoctoral fellows, assistant researchers, Ph.D. students, M.S. students and undergraduates all year round.
Li Bo has published nearly 30 papers in important academic journals, including 18 first and corresponding authors, including Nature Methods, Optics Express, etc. He has given invited talks at many international conferences. He served as invited reviewer of more than 20 academic journals including Nature Methods, Nature Communications, etc. and the guest editor of journal Photonics.

Research Direction:Dr. Bo Peng is an awardee of the Excellent Young Scholar Grant of NSFC. He obtained his bachelor degree of biotechnology in 2008 at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He then studied neurophysiology at Institute of Neuroscience at Chinese Academy of Sciences from 2008 to 2011. After that, he investigated retinal degenerative disorders at The University of Hong Kong and obtained his Ph.D. degree in neuroscience at 2015. After that, Dr. Bo Peng joined Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology at Chinese Academy of Sciences as an associate professor and established his own lab. In 2019, Dr. Bo Peng moved to Fudan University as a professor. Dr. Bo Peng’s laboratory is mainly focusing on deciphering the origin and function of microglia in the central nervous system (CNS). In addition, his lab is developing therapeutic approaches for treating CNS disorders. Dr. Bo Peng published series of last author papers, including in Nature Neuroscience and Cell Reports.

Research Direction:Dr. Feifan Guo is a professor and vice president at the Institute for Translational Brain Research (ITBR), Fudan University. Dr. Feifan Guo earned her medical degree from Dalian Medical University in 1992 and obtained her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Tokyo in 2001. After that, she did postdoc training at Department of Psychiatry, University of Minnesota (2001-2002), and Division of Endocrinology, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School (2002-2005). Then she worked as a Research Assistant Professor at Department of Biology, the Pennsylvania State University.

Research Direction:Dr. Li received his Ph.D. from Fudan University. He studied metabolic enzymes mutants in cancer, such as mutations occurs in gene of IDH (isocitrate dehydrogenase), at Dr. Shimin Zhao’s lab. He found the phenotype of hypersuccinylation in tumors bearing IDH mutants, and its mechanism by which hypersuccinylation promotes tumorigenesis. During his postdoctoral work with Dr. Yuanquan Song at University of Pennsylvania and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, he studied axon regeneration in Drosophila and Mice. He applied metabolism analysis in the injured nervous system, both glia and neurons. He joined the ITBR at Fudan University as a Tenure-Track Investigator in June, 2021.

Research Direction:Kaihua Zhang is a group leader of Institute for Translational Brain Research (ITBR), Fudan University and an affiliate professor of Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University. Research Direction:Dr. Tao Wang attended Sichuan University, Chengdu, China, and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine degree in 2008. He received Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the Institute of Neuroscience (ION), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, China, in 2015. In his Ph.D. thesis, he focused on post-translational protein modification and the regulation of protein homeostasis in ALS. Research Direction:Dr. Yousheng Shu graduated from Hunan Normal University in 1994. He received his PhD in neurobiology from the Shanghai Brain Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1999, under the guidance of Professor Zhiqi Zhao, an expert in the field of pain research. Then he went to the United States and worked as a postdoctoral fellow and research scientist in the Laboratories of Professors David A. McCormick and Robert H. LaMotte at Yale University.
